How far would you go for Group DPS Tracking?

As the title states...How far would you go for group DPS tracking.

With some research:
  • The API does not allow capturing the damage feed text for anything other than your character.
  • There is nothing in the API that allows us to monitor the chat window.
  • The ActionScript has been locked down to make reading of external files near impossible.

I have a solution in mind which will maintain game performance and does not involve any hacking methods or manipulation of client files. I'm just curious who would want this...

If I do release this to the public, I will be allowing other mod authors to use the same API. It will be closed source bar a select few.

I am using A.C.T. at the moment and it *seems* to be picking up my group's dps. Is this not the case?

It does pick up the Group DPS, but in a separate window outside of the Game UI.

Personally, I stick with ACT 100% in any game (where possible). Generally, I'm not after a "DPS meter", I'm after diagnostics and statistics - what hits for how much, damage types, crit %, timelines etc.

That being said, in the numerous MMO's I've played, most players I've known are wanting:

1. In game & simple
2. Their DPS or HPS (or both)
3. Their group/raid DPS/HPS (or both)
4. The ability to filter to self/group/raid only (ie: selectively parse)
5. Ability to export to chat channel (whether via clipboard or direct).

For people who want a meter (as opposed to parser), they generally will want group/raid dps - your dps is nice, but they really want their dps/hps compared to other people around them.
